The prosecutor, handling the case, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.

She said his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a youth camp which he ran.

The man played a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel explained, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and ask them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge the defendant had conducted this practice with the boys "repeatedly", and minors had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She stated the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in recently.

Mrs Prior KC stated further: "In the summer" his stepson had concerns about the situation, justifiably.

"They resolved" to examine in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel explained items including lubricant, petroleum jelly and medical needles were located, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his concerns.

She explained the defendant continued to play the "candy game" with six boys that night - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that point," she added.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

The legal representative explained the youngsters were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member notified the police a second time.

She explained Ruben then played the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
