The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The speculation about the recent awards show was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team might be designing a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it kicked off the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—traits that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs you can achieve with a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be completed in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can look forward to a new entry in this legendary franchise.
